NACO to share insight at the world’s leading Airfield Pavement Engineering & Maintenance event

Reading Time: 2 minutes

NACO has been selected to speak at the Airfield Pavement Engineering & Maintenance Conference, taking place in Singapore from May 17-20.

With more than 20 years of international experience in the field, Fer Mooren, Leading Professional Airside at NACO, will be discussing the challenges of designing airport pavements in poor soil conditions.

Using the example of NACO’s work on the New International Airport in Mexico City project, Fer will showcase the ways in which the team has taken extreme measures to ensure that the pavement design is adequate and guarantees minimal impact in what are extremely poor soil conditions.

Commenting on his participation in the event, Fer Mooren said: “The Netherlands famously has poor soil conditions, so as a team, we are well used to dealing with these sorts of issues. But in Mexico, the conditions are ten times worse! We are taking significant geotechnical measures to deal with the conditions, and a lot of disciplines from NACO and across our parent company Royal HaskoningDHV are coming together in the project. The Airfield Pavement Engineering & Maintenance Conference is a great opportunity to hear about the latest industry trends that impact what we do on a daily basis, and I look forward to sharing my experience of working with extremely poor soil conditions.”

Hosted by Equip Global, the specialist event is world leading in the industry, bringing together executives from organisations across the globe including the Abu Dhabi Airports Company, Changi Airports International, CAA UK, Cairo International Airport, London Heathrow Airport and Zurich Airport.

Fer Mooren will be speaking on May 18 from 12.10-12.45pm in his session entitled ‘Wide-Body Pavement Design in Extremely Poor Soil Conditions’, as well as participating in a panel discussion from 14.25-15.05pm looking at ‘Performance Comparison of Pavement Rehabilitation Strategies’.
